Exterminated

Posted by Bernard | Filed under: B-Life, News

Well, today is one of those days you always know could come…but never see it coming. Today, my day job as a graphic artist at Stahls DFC was terminated.

All management would say was that it was due to the economic circumstances and that they had to make the tough cuts in order to keep going.

Hmmn, I believe that but I am still more amazed…

…at how well I was able to take it. Not sure why, exactly. Maybe it is my faith (God never closes one door, without opening another). Or, maybe it was because for the last several years I have been preparing to return to the work that is more specific to what I do and like best. Sign Painting, Pinstriping and Website building.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I had a few tense (choked up) moments there today, trying to say goodbye to all the friends and co-workers I had got to know so well after nearly seven years of working there. And, maybe one of the toughest of all to say goodbye to was my most recent boss and direct supervisor who has always been forced to persevere to listen to all my philosophical rants, deal with my constant comedic outlook on even the serious situations that arise in a corporate climate. And in whom I have always been very open with about my future career plans. Plans to go off into the sunset (literally) and return to painting year round by spending the winters in Florida, once I turn 50 years of age.

Well, I’m 50 years old.

I just didn’t see it happening this way is all. I thought I would be able to pick the time, eat the cake from my own "Good-Ridenance" party and setup my next big move. But I have a marvelous wife who supports me despite all my failed career attempts in the past and while I cannot mark this job as a failed one (learned allot of computer stuff here) I have already received her blessings to support me in whatever path I end up taking on from here.

I could be upset about the timing though as our Baby Girl is getting married in just a few weeks from now but her and her mother have done such a great job of planning and saving all the money needed that they told me that my job loss ($) will not matter one bit, where the wedding is concerned.

PTL!

Also, we were planning on a trip to the bank to purchase the little house we are currently renting once the wedding was over but now it looks as though, with unemployment looming over my resume Peggy will have to take that on herself.

On the positive side I can say that I have just finished working (for now anyway) with the best company I have ever known or heard of and cannot tell you how valuable the communications skills and management procedures I’ve learned while working there have helped me in wherever I end up going.

Lord, thanks you for the time spent there and bless those that remain with all the good health, finances and prosperity that this company can sow for years to come.

Respectfully,
Bernard Molek

"Personal Day" time off benefits on my day job to help my old friend open up his latest car lot in Uniontown, PA.

It’s one of the oldest brick buildings in town and was originally built to house and sell "White" manufactured cars & trucks way back in the 20’s.

My friend has painstakingly remodeled/restored the old building keeping much of it’s old…

…style and flair that was prominent for buildings of it’s kind. He plans on selling many of his used cars from some of his other dealerships there and I think his customers will appreciate and enjoy visiting the old building once it’s finished. It’s amazing to see and respect the older buildings and how they were fashioned to meet the needs of businesses back in the day.

Fittingly, he wants to try and have many of the signs for this building reflect the signs of the period as well. This means they would need to be or look, "Hand-Lettered/Painted". So, I hand-lettered the front window with a temporary "Now Open" sign.

If your passing by 75 Fayette Street in Uniontown, PA (the old Region Buick bldg.) anytime soon, stop in and tell them "Bernie" sent you!

  • New Drip.Dot.Swirl Book From Vonster

Posted by Bernard | Filed under: B-Art, Books

I just got my FREE autographed copy of Drip.Dot.Swirl by Von Glitschka (better known as "vonster") in the mail today!

I know we all love to get things in the mail and I have a humble but pretty decent sized collection of very good computer Illustration books starting to build, so this new shiny Illustration book was extra special to me.

And, this one is another fine find but please…

…this is not a thorough book review nor could I hope to do it justice by trying to make it one. Your simply reading an excited post about a book that seems will give me hours and hours of creative reading an inspiration to continue down the digital graphic road.

Now, I probably should have waited at least until I read the book first, but trust me, when I get going deep into a book like this I never really finish. Speaking of diving into a good book he even included a great bookmarker/business card to keep your place or take him up on his invite to help you in the event you get "Stumped". Oh and did I mention that there is a Vector stocked CD (see photos) sunk into the inside back cover?. Sure hope it wasn’t created using CS8 or something crazy like that as I’m sure Vonster is out front and even ahead of all the software that’s out today.

Can’t imagine not expanding my digital illustration box after traveling through this fine looking book and CD so until I do…I’ll see ya later.

Oh, and Vonster…Thanks for all you do and share online, in your blogs and with your tweets. I would love to crack into one of your classes one of these days too. Who knowz?
